What Is GDE Admission Placement?
The GDE Admission Placement, as the name suggests simply means the process by which the Gauteng Department of Education assigns a school to a learner after that learner’s parent or guardian have gone through the application process and have successfully submitted an application form on the learner’s behalf— especially for Grade 1 and Grade 8.
This means that when a parent or guardian finally submits their application, the department goes through these applications and assigns a suitable school for that particular learner.
- The assigning of schools to learners is based on these factors;
How close the applicant’s home address is to the school to be assigned - If there is a space available at the school that was chosen by the applicant
- Whether there are feeder zones where the applicant chose their preferred school

The GDE admission portal is a personal portal that parents and guardians use to check out updated information concerning their ward’s admission information. The portal is more of a self portal, and parents and guardians register and sign up for free.

Things to consider when reviewing your ward’s admission placement may include but are not limited to the following;

- How close is the school to your workplace
